Dog-Whistling

monkey this up  . . .  dog-whistling,

a KKK thought bubble bursting,

exploding across KKK lips,

decoded, loaded racially charged kindling

to ignite the base to get the base out to vote,

not on morality, not on intellect

not on temperament but on color,

not on equality, not on justice

not on liberty, but on color

dog-whistling,

that high-pitched low sound howling

the blue-collar’d hounds to black it up

whistling monkey this up

dog-whistling,

tossing charred red meat to feed

racially ravenous salivating dogs

and when called out, disingenuously

walk back the diss[1], apologize,

say it was a mistake,

say it was a figure of speech,

say it was an unconscious slip of

racially charged consciousness

whistling the dogs

when called out, walk it back,

glibly say lets move on for the

good of a country monkeying it up,

dog-whistling

[1] slang : to treat with disrespect or contempt : insult,
